The Yorkshire Dales
Last week I did something I've been meaning to do for several years and that's spend some time in the Yorkshire Dales photographing landscapes.
The Dales is somewhere I've only been a handful of times and then to rock climb. I have fond memories of places such as Giggleswick and even a trip to the all to hard but amazing Kilnsey but that's another tale.
It's a challenging time of year for photography, sunrise is about 05:45 and sunset about 20:45 making for an early rise and a late to bed, well late if you are getting out and on location for sunrise ;-) From January through to July the UK weather has been lovely but disappointingly its now turned rather rubbish (Technical term :-) ) with cloudy skies and damp days. Humph. Maybe not the best time then, but, hey, you don't get anything if you don't try.
I believe you only get the best photographs when you know a landscape pretty intimately. In other words, you know where the good locations are and the sort of lighting when they look their best. Being my first photography trip the lighting wasn't a big problem; plenty of time for scouting and research. That's not to say I didn't get anything during the week and I intend to publish some of the better shots in the near future.
